Dear [REPRESENTATIVE NAME],

My name is [NAME], and I live at [STREET ADDRESS, CITY, STATE]. I am writing to urge you to support the Credit for Caring Act of 2021, S.1670.

Caregivers of aging adults face significant financial strain, spending an average of $5,500 out of pocket each year to help support loved ones (Committee on Family Caregiving for Older Adults et al 2016). Family caregivers are also plagued by emotional and mental health burdens, suffering from depression at twice the rate of the general population (Family Caregiver Alliance). The Credit for Caring Act is an important step in helping to support family caregivers, the backbone of Long-Term Care in the United States. The tax credit allowed by S. 1670 would provide some respite to those who dedicate so much time, money, and energy caring for others.

As one of your constituents, I urge you to support S. 1670, the Credit for Caring Act and would greatly appreciate your timely response outlining what steps you will be taking to support our beloved family caregivers.

Sincerely,

[REPRESENTATIVE ADDRESS]

Dear [REPRESENTATIVE NAME],

My name is [NAME], and I live at [STREET ADDRESS, CITY, STATE]. I am writing to urge you to support the inclusion of increased spending for Home and Community Based Supports (HCBS) and expansion of Medicare.

The Medicare eligible population within the United States is growing rapidly as the Baby Boomer generation reaches age 65. Many of these individuals are unprepared for aging; while 70% of Americans over age 65 will need long-term care, one in three incorrectly believe that Medicare pays for LTSS (https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/as-boomers-age-most-woefully-unprepared-for-long-term-care). These Americans should have the option to age in the home, and on their own terms without fearing gaps in coverage and availability.  Or, face spending down their assets in order to qualify for Medicaid; thus, putting even greater stress on already-strained state budgets.

As one of your constituents, I urge you to support the inclusion of HCBS and Medicare expansion in the upcoming and ongoing debates. I greatly appreciate your timely response outlining what steps you will be taking to supporting our aging population.

Sincerely,
